The Menace of AI on Online Research – Discussion on Westwood’s (2025)

The activity will revolve around Westwood’s (2025) “The Potential Existential Threat of Large Language Models to Online Survey Research”. The article compellingly demonstrates how commercial AI models can, through simple text prompts, replicate human behavior in online surveys almost perfectly – passing attention checks and exibiting complex, human-like behaviours. The goal of the meeting is to open a conversation about the current state of online research, exploring possible future scenarios and emerging research practices.
