Subversive humor against sexism
Andrés R. Riquelme (University of Granada)
Subversive humor against sexism, also known as feminist humor, has been described as a tool used by women to demonstrate, question and change patriarchal ideology and gender discrimination. However, the few existing empircal approaches, show no evidence indicating that such humor represented a conceptual entity different from other types of humor (e.g., man disparagement humor) and it has been no test its possible psychosocial effect of subverting sexism. In this sense, a line of studies focused on the analysis of the empirical entity of this type of humor, its relationship with attitudinal variables (i.e. feminist identity and hostile sexism) and its pychosocial effects of being exposed to it will be discussed
