Care for a fair share? Fairness beliefs as a means to reduce economic inequality
Carmen Cervone (University of Padova)
When judging distributions, individuals evaluate fairness over equality; at the same time, they are motivated to believe that systems which they depend on are fair and just. As a result, fairness beliefs may play a role in delegitimizing the system and consequently increasing support for redistribution. With this project, I aim to test the link between unfairness, support for redistribution and activism against inequality, through thought generation, framing of information, and visual priming. These findings could potentially be applied in an educational context, as well as campaigns against inequality and impactful visual communication.
